"Resistance is futile", "Turn right to go left" and other cliches that work
"Resistance is futile", "Turn right to go left" and other cliches that work
I was thinking about cheesy lines that actually hold a lot of wisdom and I'm curious if there are any that come to mind for you. Lord knows we ND folk love to squirrel movie lines and quotes away. One of my favourite quirks is that my mind likes to blend two different references that have the same meaning into some sort of wacky mixed metaphor that confuses others.
I am a mental health occupational therapist and entrepreneur who coaches other OT entrepreneurs and teaches entrepreneurship to OT students. I find myself using the following references a lot.
When someone is too focused on the end point and not enough on living the path, I'll make it extra cheesy and say, "In the wise words of Steven Tyler, 'Life's a Journey, not a destination."
If someone realizes they had the answer they've been struggling to find all along, I'll say, "It's like Dorothy and the ruby slippers." Turns out most people don't remember these details of the Wizard of Oz but they go with it anyway.
I often teach people that resisting what is multiplies the suffering and support them in finding ways to just experience the primary challenge with less resistance. I generally don't use a quote here but in my mind I hear a robotic, "Resistance is futile."
Lightning McQueen's "Turn left to go right" always comes to mind when people need to go a bit in the opposite direction to get on the right track. This one is usually my inner narrative but it's so true.
Do you have any movie lines or quotes you use a lot in your work or your life that keep you weird and entertaining while communicating a concept?

Basically, if you slow down and do whatever it is you're doing, you actually get more done overall.
